Herzog-Ernst-Spitze and Schareck

This was an excursion into a really beautiful, truly Alpine vicinity. We hiked very high peaks, and were surrounded by even higher and sharper ones, with wild glaciers.

"Hey, what are you doing? Get your hand off my shoulder!" The peak in the background is Hocharn (3254 m).

This is the ridge we followed towards our target of the day, Shareck (3123 m), at the top of the photo.

Hoher Sonnblick (3106 m). Probably it is hard to see in the picture, but there is a tourist hut (Zittelhaus) at the very peak of this mountain. Incredible, isn't it?

A bunch of tiny blue flowers above 3000 m.

Joanna at the peak of Herzog-Ernst-Spitze (2933 m) with the view towards some more "tame" mountains. Note the hut at the ridge next to her left knee.

During the meal at the peak of Herzog-Ernst-Spitze (2933 m). Hocharn (3254 m) and its huge glaciers make an excellent background.

Pawel in front of the lower part of the glacier called Wurtenkees, or Mölltaler Gletscher. This picture was taken at the altitude of about 2600-2700 m.
