This was an interesting trip to the group of limestone rocks called Lienzer Dolomiten because of their similarity with the "real" Dolomites in Italy. The rocks were really impressive, but very hard to climb. In fact, we failed to climb our primary target, Rote Turm (2700 m), and we were unable to get to the very peak of our secondary target, Laserzwand (2614 m). Nevertheless, this was an unforgettable hike in a beautiful, steep and wild vicinity.

and Rote Turm (2700 m; at the right).

The steep massif of Rote Turm (2700 m).

Pawel in the beautiful limestone environment:
bright rocks and stones, a lot of grass and flowers.

A bunch of pink flowers among the rocks.

The steep peak of Laserzwand (2614 m).

The mountains around were extraordinarily steep and beautiful:
just several rows of wild rocks!

Pawel at the feet of Rote Turm (2700 m) with the view towards the valley
we hiked from. The lake down there is called Laserzsee (ca. 2260 m).
The two peaks in the background are Seekofel (2738 m)
and Wilde Sender (2738 m). The wide gap to the right is
Odkarscharte (2596 m) - we initially planned to go there,
but we changed our mind: fortunately! - look how high it is...

A view from the gap towards the town of Lienz. Note that we were almost
2000 m above the bottom of the valley!

A view from Laserzwand (2614 m) towards Laserzsee.

Three peaks with crosses: Rote Turm (2700 m), Grosse Sandspitze (2770 m),
and Laserzwand (2614 m).

These mountains are really huge!!!

Karlsbaderhütte is located in an extremely picturesque place,
surrounded with wild and steep rocks. The gap at the right is
probably Laserztörl (2497 m).
